For two decades, Belgian choreographer Ugo Dehaes worked with dancers. In 2020 he became a choreographer of things, and embarked on a journey to build robots.

Working with dancers demands for robust social skills: you have to be able to communicate your ideas to other people, but you also have to make sure that the dancers feel safe, understood and valued. That is a big task for somebody who is rather shy and introvert.
In contrast, working with robots is considerably more straightforward. They execute tasks without hesitation and don’t require motivational speeches.

But throughout his work, Ugo discovered that inside each robot, a small and fragile being is hidden. A soft robot, with feelings and doubts. A little creature that needs even more attention than human dancers.

Soft Tissue is the third show where Ugo seamlessly blends dance, technology, puppetry, and humor. The show is presented with the audience joining Ugo around a large table, creating an immersive and interactive experience.
